Types

Types (or Battle Types) are the equivalent of classes in Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity. There are 4 different Types, each having their own strengths and weaknesses, tending themselves to certain weapons or playstyles. Types level up separately to the character through Type Points, which are obtained upon the successful clear of a mission, with the mission clear rank directly affecting the amount of Type Points received.

Types determine the player's stats, photon arts level cap, trap usage, and proficiency with weapons with Extend Type. Types can be switched at any time at the Type Counter, and all races are able to use all Types, although certain races are more pre-disposed to certain Types than others. Note that in Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity, weapons are not locked by Type, but instead have different Extend Type costs.

Types initially have a level cap of 30, but can be increased through Rebirth up to level 50.

Below are excerpts on the 4 different Types, explaining their strengths and weaknesses. For more in-depth information on the Type differences, please see:

Hunter[edit | edit source]

A male beast Hunter.
A balanced warrior adept at close combat with high ATK and DEF.
Skilled in the use of melee weapons. Good for beginners.
- In-game description

Hunter is a Type that is proficient at use with all striking weapons. They possess the highest HP, ATK and DEF of all the types, lending themselves well to close-quarters combat. However, they have the lowest in all other stats. Hunters are recommended for beginners, as their simple playstyle and high defensive stats make them easy to handle, with options to handle any situation.

Hunter's learned abilities focus primarily on increasing attack and defense, with abilities such as ATK Boost, Super Armor and Healing Item Boost.

Ranger[edit | edit source]

A male cast Ranger.
A sniper that can shoot enemies and support allies from a distance.
The type's high ACC makes it adept with ranged weapons. Good for intermediate players.
- In-game description

Ranger is a Type that is proficient at use with all ranged weapons. They possess the highest ACC of all the types, along with average defensive stats, making them potent at usage with all ranged weaponry. Unlike Phantasy Star Universe, ranged weapons base their damage mostly on ACC, making rangers much stronger than Hunters with ranged weapons. Rangers are masters at single-target damage, and have somewhat lacking AoE options.

Ranger's learned abilities focus primarily on increasing ranged weapon proficiency, with abilities such as ACC Boost, Full-Charge Shot and Hi-Speed Charge.

Force[edit | edit source]

A female newman Force.
A type that relies on Technics for attacking and providing support.
The type's high TEC and MND make it adept with Technic weapons. For advanced players.
- In-game description

Force is a Type that is proficient at use with all types of technics. They possess the highest TEC and MND of all Types, making them good at dealing damage with technics and also defending from technics. However, they have amongst the lowest stats for all other stats, especially defensive, so care is necessary when playing as a Force. In Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity, forces are also adept with Longbows and Cards, as they base their damage on both TEC and ACC. Forces are masters at crowd control, chain building and AoE damage.

Force's learned abilities focus primarily on improving Technic usage, with abilities such as TEC Boost, Elemental Hi-Speed and Elemental Advance.

Vanguard[edit | edit source]

A female human Vanguard.
A jack-of-all-trades type that can employ different combat styles to fill diverse roles in parties.
A good fit with lighter weapons.
- In-game description

Vanguard is Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity's only hybrid Type. They are adept at all types of attacks and very strong with traps. They possess average stats in all fields, with the exception of EVA, meaning the player's Race choice has more impact on Vanguard's playstyle than any other Type. While they cannot do as much damage as specialised setups, the ability to use different attack types can become very useful in missions with a variety of enemy resistances or setups. They are also the sole user of the Stun EX trap, a very damaging trap that has unparalleled crowd control. Officially, they are proficient with single-handed weapons, but can use all weapons to good effectiveness.

Vanguard's learned abilities focus primarily on PP and traps, with abilities such as PP Boost, PP Restore Rate and Burst Bomber.
